Laundry Lessons: Grandma Bloomers, Thongs, and the Art of Feeling Fabulous

Oh, the joys of love and laundry – a combination that can either be a match made in heaven or a comedy of errors. Picture this: your “on again, off again, we are proceeding with no titles, long-distance situationship” attempting to be helpful by transforming your guest bed into a makeshift drying rack for your grandma bloomers. If that doesn’t scream “relationship hurdles,” what does?

In my defense, I’m not one to easily blush, but as he confidently showcased his laundry prowess, leading me into the room like a laundry hero, I secretly wished for a trapdoor to whisk me away from the embarrassment unfolding. Grandma bloomers on display? Not exactly the scene I envisioned when dreaming about our romantic escapades that afternoon.

Flashback to the era of my second husband and the unforgettable scolding from a best friend who allegedly shared more than friendship with him. The crime? Emptying out the contents of my Walmart bag on her bed, proudly revealing my “Hanes Her Way” cotton underwear that could double as a parachute. Size matters – especially when you want full coverage, right?

Judassa (not her real name but I thought it was a nice play on words), the sage adviser and my husband whisperer, may have had her quirks, but she preached the gospel of pretty undergarments. Because let’s face it, when we feel good underneath, we radiate that positivity in every step, smile, and maneuver through our day. And here’s the kicker – even if no one else sees what’s underneath, it’s about being intentional in loving ourselves from head to toe and everywhere in between.

Now, does this mean subjecting ourselves to uncomfortable underwear that might cause permanent bodily damage? That’s a debate for the ages. Personally, on that day that my “on again, off again” love interest tried to help,  I would have traded in the grandma bloomers for some strategically strewn lacy thongs.

In the grand laundry of life, let’s remember the valuable lesson: what we put on matters, not just for our partners but for ourselves. So, whether you’re a fan of cotton comfort or lace allure, wear it with intention, walk differently, smile differently, and embrace the fabulous feeling – even if it involves cocoa butter to fade the burns left by a ting thong. Cheers to embracing the quirks, the thongs, and the ever-important art of feeling fabulous from the inside out!
